FAQS
We’ll use our cutting-edge sanding machines to strip off these top layers of filth and expose the lovely fresh wood underneath. It’s like watching a butterfly emerge from a chrysalis, and the wood will then be ready for us to apply a stain and varnish treatment or any other finish you care to choose.
WHAT'S THE BEST FINISH?
There are advantages and disadvantages to every type of finish, although except in heavy traffic environments like museums and restaurants it doesn’t make a great deal of difference which ones you go for. An oil finish, for example will penetrate deep into the wood and look rich and golden but you’ll have to re-apply the oil fairly regularly. On the other hand, when an oiled floor starts to get patchy you can carry out local repairs. With a wax or varnish finish the floor doesn’t need such regular maintenance but when patches do eventually appear you’ll need to get the entire floor sanded down and the finish applied again, as local repairs will not be an option. Give us a call for more information about this, but it will all be explained to you in your free on-site assessment and during the course of the work, should you choose to go ahead with it.
HOW LONG BEFORE THE FLOOR IS FINISHED?
WILL THERE BE A LOT OF MESS AND DISRUPTION? We use the very latest technology to keep the mess to an almost negligible amount (literally a dust-pan full, max!). You probably have visions of masks, dust clouds and flying slivers of wood, but this is not the case. Our sanding machines are designed to retain the dust in sacks, so you won’t actually see much of it, if any at all.
The Stevenage floor sanding and finishing team SG1 will also make sure that other parts of the property are sealed off, and they’ll completely tidy up before they leave.
